Olmos Tower Building Power & Water Outage
Installation of a new building power switch, part of the future common-area fire sprinkler system, is
POSTPONED until further notice.

Important!
No elevator service, No landline phones, No electricity, and No water during the outage.
The stairwells and hallways will eventually be completely dark.
Have a flashlight ready to go and with you.
As mentioned in OT Board minutes and other communications, the switch install requires that all electrical power to Olmos Tower be shut off.

The power will be shut off at 8am and likely return by 8pm (could be shorter or could be longer.)   We will turn on the fire alarm 10 minutes prior to shutting off the power as a reminder that you only have a short period of time to leave the building.

The install requires all electrical power to be shut off for the entire building.   You will receive a call, text and/or email informing powered is restored.  Think about minimizing your refrigerator/ freezer contents. Below is information for residents to prepare for the full building power outage.

Unit Access
  1. Elevator Service. There will be no elevator service during the outage. Residents should either exit before the power is cut off or stay in your unit for the duration.
  2. Stairwells.  Although the stairwells will be open, the regular stairwell lights will be off.  The emergency lights will operate for less than 1 hour after the power shut off.  Thus, the stairwells will eventually be completely dark.  If you choose to use the stairwells you take full responsibility for your safety.  Our employees will not be allowed in the stairwells during the power outage.  Emergency personnel will be able to use the stairwells if needed.
  3. Hallways.  Hallways will also be completely dark after the hallway emergency lights go off.
  4. Unit Doors.  If your residence door operates with an electronic lock, plan how you will enter or leave your unit if necessary during the power outage.

Amenities.  During the outage there will be:
  1. No air conditioning (hot or cold).  It most likely will get uncomfortably warm in the building.
  2. No water (toilets will not refill if flushed a 2nd time.)  You may want to fill your bathtub or sink with water the night prior to the outage to use to flush toilets if you plan to remain in the building.
  3. No power to refrigerators/freezers (avoid opening them to keep the inside as cold as possible.)
  4. No WIFI or ability to charge your phones (charge everything the night before.)
  5. No landline phones will work.
  6. No power to your Computers.  Recommend powering down your Mac, PC/Desktop prior to the power outage.
  7. No outside contractors in the building.
  8. No package deliveries to the units (Doorman will still receive packages).
  9. US Mail will be delivered to the lobby mail boxes. (rain, sleet, or power switch install!)

Both the upper and lower parking garage gates/doors will remain open throughout the outage.

Every effort will be made to keep the power outage as short as possible.  We regret the huge inconvenience and appreciate your cooperation.  This installation is a big step in ensuring that our future fire suppression system will function properly and pass the city inspection.

We urge all residents to begin planning for the power interruption.  (Think about reducing your refrigerator/freezer contents.) If you plan to stay in the building during the power outage, please let Gwen know in case of an emergency. If you have any questions, contact Gwen.  You will be sent a reminder as the date of the power outage gets closer.

Thank you,
